Preserving Old Fashioned Goodness

Howdy darlin’s! In keeping with my quest to preserve the goodness of old-fashioned ways, I thought I’d share some tried and true bits of wisdom. Some are cute light-hearted quotes, some are old-time sayings that you might recognize and others are words of advice from dear mamas and grandmas around the country. But they all promote wholesome thinking…something we could use more of in this day and age.

They are virtues that we need to continue to pass down to future generations, all things good, right and true.

 Here are two scriptures that set the stage for right and wholesome thinking: Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” And Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (It’s so important for your mental, emotional and physical health that you keep a positive mindset! It’s a daily decision to fight off the negative and accentuate the positive!)

“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” ~Abe Lincoln

“If mama ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy.” (The mama sets the tone in the home. Mama needs to find her joy so home-life can be an emotionally safe and sweet …read this post if you need to find your joy again…so you can bring a whole lot of HaPpY back into your home.)

“Pie fixes everything.” (Comfort food is delightful but even more so is the company and conversation of a loved one, sharing words of tender encouragement and understanding…and if it happens to include a piece of homemade pie, all the better and sweeter!)

“You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.”  (you’ll gain more favor with people if you are sweet and kind rather than harsh, critical and, negative…and you’ll be a lot happier too!)

“You’ll always feel better about yourself if you put on a little lipstick.” (If you look good you’ll feel good! Looking your best gains the respect of others too, and it boosts your self-confidence and productivity).

“Bless your little pea-pickin’ heart”. (Everyone needs compassion and a pat on the back)

“You’re as pretty as a peach and cute as Christmas!” (Giving compliments and encouragement always warms the heart of both the receiver and the giver.)

“Your smile is the front porch of your heart.” Everyone benefits from smiling. Did you know that smiling actually releases endorphins that make you feel better? And it blesses the person you’re smiling at too.

“Pretty is as pretty does.” (You are as pretty as your actions. It doesn’t matter how pretty you are on the outside if you’re not pretty on the inside.)

“Goodness, hard work, and the love of God and country, like cream,  will always rise to the top!”

“You reap what you sow” (Galatians 6:7) (You will harvest what you plant in life)

“Be neighborly, wave at anybody and everybody when passing them down the road”. (I call this the Mayberry way!)

“Be sweet.” (Everyone is in need of kindness, you never know what difficulties others are going through.)

I believe these nuggets of wisdom are all things that need to be preserved in our homes. These virtues and values may go against our current culture but if we can stand strong and faithful by teaching them to our children and grandchildren then we will give our country hope and with God’s grace, goodness will prevail. I’d love for you to add to the mix and share any quotes, or old-time sayings that you remember growing up!

Howdy Sugar Pies! I’m here with another Roundup of Recipes! This time I’m sharing some scrumptious looking Chocolate Chip Cookies! Who doesn’t love an ooey-gooey and chewy chocolate chip cookie every now and then? YUM!! My mama-in-law made the best! She cooked and baked by heart, never measuring so I’m still trying to come close to her chocolate chip cookie goodness. But in the meantime,  I cruised the internet looking for recipes that frankly make my mouth water. Lol! These all look like winners to me and I can’t wait to try a few of them out! Although I’d love to have cookies every day, I’m trying to watch my sugar intake. So when I do treat myself to something sweet I want to make sure it’s worth the calories and sugar!
