HoWdY Sugar Pies! Boy oh boy have I been havin’ fun! A few weeks ago I met up with my darlin’ friend Kathie Truitt from Hillbilly Debutante. She’s been on the road promoting her new book The Hillbilly Debutante Cafe! I got my copy and plan to read it this summer out on my front porch rockin’ chair with a tall, ice cold glass of sweet tea! Kathie was born and raised in Missouri and her new book is based on her charming little hometown of El Dorado Springs. It’s always so much fun to meet up with this sassy-boot-scootin’- gal-pal O’ mine!
I also spent a day at one of my favorite places Silver Dollar City right here in my Hometown, Branson, Missouri! While I was there this adorable couple was getting married in the old log Wilderness Church. Don’t you just love their Old West wedding clothes? LOVE! The best part about that day was meeting one of my Sugar Pie’s, Amie! I was sitting on a bench relaxing with my hubby while my daughter Summer was riding a roller-coaster with her friend and Amie, along with her sweet family, were walking by and she recognized me! (Hi Amie!) It was a blessing to meet her and her darling family!
Well, I don’t know about you but I am so ready for summer!
Fresh air, sunshine, and warm breezes!
I’m ready to smell the aroma of Barbecue in the air…
Ready to do some gardening…picking my sweet home-grown,
sun-warmed cherry tomatoes from the vine…

I’m ready to put my vintage tablecloths to use outside on my deck to enjoy a summer snack…
Speaking of a “summer snack” … a bowl of fresh strawberries with my favorite fruit dip is pure bliss!
It tastes like cheesecake!
The best part (besides tasting so scrumptious) is that it’s soooooooo easy to make! Just two ingredients!!
Just whip together with an electric mixer: 1 jar of Marshmallow Creme and 1 tub (12 oz.) of Cream Cheese!
That’s it! Keep it chilled until ready to serve.
(You can also rest your serving bowl inside a larger bowl filled with ice to keep it cold while serving it.)

I’m also ready to stock my cupboard with summer’s bounty…
(now is a good time to start gathering the supplies and recipes for canning your favorite jam!)
I’m ready to watch my grandbabies (Kade and Johnny) play in their little kiddie pool, splashing and giggling!
(Kade is 10 months and Johnny just turned two! I bought them matching swimsuits! Oh honey’s!)
How about you? Are you getting ready perhaps for an old fashioned family reunion this summer?
Yes! I’m ready to celebrate the good ol’ Summertime!
Hey! For all of my Sugar Pie New-bees who have been asking about my Summer e-book
(titled Watermelon And Fireflies)
I’m offering it again for a limited time at half price!
My E-book, Watermelon & Fireflies, is a sun-drenched, farm fresh, sweet-as-corn-on-the-cob adventure to the good ol’ summertime! It’s jam-packed with a bucket-full of fun ideas! Although there are recipes it’s way more than a cookbook! Each page is decorated in full color with vintage images, photos, charming quotes and of course 51 farm fresh ideas including family fun tips, recipes, decorating ideas, encouragement for homemakers and so much more!
Darlins’, ”Watermelon & Fireflies” is just drippin’ with sweet southern nostalgia like honey from a honeycomb! Here is just a sampling of the 50 pages of pure, all-American nostalgia! If you don’t have it yet, I can’t wait for you to see all of the ideas I’ve gathered to bless your heart! Here are just a few of the idea titles…(there are 51 ideas!);
- breakfast in a bucket
- rise and shine!
- come and get it!
- sunshine fresh
- diner pie
- meet me at the fair!
- gathering joy!
- farm-girl treasure hunt
- dreamy strawberry butter
- jingle bells in july
- fresh farm style
- have a summer pie party
- golden moments
- yankee doodle macaroni salad
- sweet wonderful you!
- have a cow! (moo!)
- fresh as a daisy
- a splashing good time!
- going on a picnic!
Plus so many more! I’ve even included my recipe for Oh My Stars! Fresh Peach Pie…it’s my favorite pie EV-AH and everyones favorite! When you taste it you’ll squeal “OH MY STARS!” Linda said… “I can’t imagine a better way to spend a Summer day than to relax in a cooling afternoon breeze with an iced cold glass of sweet tea, a jar of yummy ”Farm Wife Banana Pudding” and Ruthann’s new e-bookWatermelon and Fireflies. Jam-packed with the best that Sugar Pie Farmhouse has to offer, it’s a joy to read and sparks the imagination quicker than fireflies at sunset. It is charming, homey and conveys in the sweetest possible terms Ruthann’s love for home and family and it will inspire you to make the most of this summer with your family. It’s at the top of my summer reading list.” Linda Lee Sister-in-Law to sweet Ruthann Marla Said… “What an incredibly delightful read! From the beautifully decorated pages to the precious stories and funny anecdotes, Watermelon and Firefliesmakes your heart sing and reminds you of all of the beauty of sweet summertime. Aunt Ruthie shares so many of her wonderful and creative ideas that inspire one to not let the season go by without “making a memory.” I’m excited to purchase this southern jewel for each of my grandmas, aunts, mom and sister and look forward to taking a little walk down memory lane with the women who were such an integral part of the summers of my childhood. Thank you Ruthann for sharing your amazing heart with your Sugar Pie Sistas! Marla Robison (Editor) Your Kindred Sista Also included are 14 of my Sugar Pie Sisters Summertime ideas and sweet memories of summer’s past. When I read these I could almost feel the warm summer breeze flow across my face and taste the fresh blueberry pie! And I could almost hear Grandma hummin’ an old hymn as she hung her linens out on the line…the wind snappin’ the sheets…and the bees a-buzzin’. I think you’ll find that Watermelon & Fireflies will remind you of an old fashioned country church picnic. The background graphics resemble homey kitchen tablecloths and the recipes are like the dishes women-folk of yesteryear would proudly set on the long tables, pot-luck style under the breezy shade of an old oak tree. The activities and ideas are family-friendly, easy on the pocket-book, and are sure to create many heartwarming memories and traditions. Since this is an E-book, you can download it immediately to read it on your computer. If you’re interested in printing the E-Book, I highly recommend going down to your local Staples, Office Depot or UPS store and have them print the PDF document for you. When I first released this e-book, there were a few gals who experienced issues with printing. The primary reason for this is the size of the PDF file (there’s just so much fun stuff!). Some computers and printers just can’t process such large files, so you may run into printing errors. Of course you can just read it online!
You can put your copy of “Watermelon and Fireflies” in a binder or bind it like I did; After printing it out on quality Premium paper, I put the pages inside plastic Sheet Protectors and then tied them together with 3 strips of wide gingham ribbon. If you cut the ribbon at a slant it’s easy to thread it through each hole and tie a double knot to secure it Tied together with ribbons adds to the vintage, down-on-the-farm look.
I also slipped a sheet of posterboard behind the front and back cover to give it a firmer, hardback feel.
So for a limited time only, I’m offering Watermelon & Fireflies for $9.95… a 50% discount from the original price. This discount will be available during the summer months and will expire on August 15, 2012. To get your copy and to receive the 50% discount click here or click the giant pink button below. Once you’ve purchased the E-Book, you’ll receive an email with all the download instructions. Just so there’s no confusion, I want all my sisters to know that this is a PDF document that you can download to your computer. This is NOT a printed book that you’ll be receiving by mail. Due to the fact that this is a digital download, I won’t be able to accept any refunds. If you have any questions about your download you can contact my son Dusty at (auntruthie@sugarpiefarmhouse.com). Please know that he has a full time job, a wife and baby at home so it may take a few days for him to get back to you. He helps me with my computer stuff out of the goodness of his heart when he has a few moments to spare!
So Sugar Pies, pour a tall glass of something ice-cold and yummy to drink. Relax and settle yourself into a comfy spot as you embark on this armchair adventure filled with delightful vintage charm and old fashioned fun!

Such an inspirational post, as always. I was just near your home yesterday and the day before, and I said at least a dozen times how I wish I could meet you while in Branson! LOL! The group I was with probably got tired of hearing it I said it so many times. :-) Maybe some day it will happen. Until then, I look forward to each post.

Summer is not my favorite season (not a fan of heat, bugs or yardwork or pool upkeep, to be honest), but you know how to bring out the best in anything, don’t you, Aunt Ruthie? :) My kids love the pool, though, and VBS & all the summer fruit. Maybe I can really enjoy it this year! Thanks, Ruthie for your positive spin.
P.S. That picture of you at age 5 – looks just like your Summer Rose!
Dear Aunt Ruthie,
Thank you for another sweet and inspiring post. I love the picture of your grandparents camping. My sweet grandma wore dresses camping too. How adorable is that? Have a joy-filled trip and a blessed summer! Victoria Lynn
Enjoyed your post as always, Aunt Ruthie … Ah, summer !!
Many best memories are Summer memories … vacation
trips and lots of camping when we were kids, roadside park picnics, family reunions, trips to grandma’s, trips to the beach and the bay, fishing and fish fries, crab and shrimp boils, fireworks on the 4th of July, lots of barbecue, hot dogs and hamburgers and best of ALL … HOME MADE ICE CREAM (remember that !?)
Happy Summer !!
Oh yes, please! Do an e-book for fall with lots of pictures and goodies from Branson and Silver Dollar City!!! That would just be heavenly for me (and plenty others too, I’m sure)! And a Christmas one would be fabulous too!!!
Cuteness as always! Summer is my favorite time of the year! Thanks for sharing. Ü
How adorable are your grandbabies?! :) Omgsh, at age 5 you look just like your son that recently got married… Btw, before I forget, I don’t know if you removed your last post (don’t remember the title but it had a giveaway) or it just vanished but it is not on your blog since about the first or second day you put it up. Anyhoo, I just thought you’d like to know… Now off to buy your book. Have a fantastic trip. :)
Thank you in advance for the upcoming e-books! Loved the Watermelon & Fireflies e-book, so I’m sure the others will be just as fun! Since I grew up in Oklahoma, but now live in Washington, it’s like coming home when I visit your blog! Thanks for all the yummy, homegrown goodness…and best of all: pointing to Jesus all the while!
Love the sweet tea tray y’all!!!
Xoxo
As always, love your sunshiny post! I love your *Watermelon and Fireflies* E-Book. I ordered it when it came out and then lost it somehow on my computer..grrrrr…I had searched for it for several days before having lunch with my Forever Girlfriend who I had shared a link to your blog with earlier suggesting that she check you out and that I thought she would love you also. Well, the minute she stepped out of her car at the place we were meeting for lunch, she handed me your E-Book all printed out in sheet protecters with little red gingham ribbon tied up just like you had shown…lol…I had dreamed of putting mine together like that. She had no idea I had purchased your E-Book and lost it and had been searching for days so sad because I couldn’t find it. Now, is that a great Forever Girlfriend or what? We call ourselves *two peas in a pod*. Thanks for all that you do……..Raynita
I love your E book!! Everyone needs to have it. It is wonderful! I always enjoy reading your messages. Your grandsons are beautiful. Have a wonderful summer. Thanks for sharing the fruit dip recipe!
God bless you,
Pam
Just curious-for you ladies that purchased the e-book and had it copied, how much did your color copies cost? When I uploaded my pdf copy to Staples, they quoted me $28 to print the book. I was just wondering what others paid or if I’m doing something wrong here. Thanks so much!! Love the book!!!
I absolutely LOVE Watermelon and Fireflies….I have had my copy for a few summers now. I have it printed and in sleeves with cute little ribbon (like yours.) I sit it out every summer and browse through it all the time – and I love it when guests pick it up and look through it. It is adorable and has such fun family ideas for a happy summer! Thanks for sharing!! And yes…a book for Fall would be WONDERFUL!! :) Hope you have a wonderful time “Out West”!!
Aunt Ruthie,
Love, love, love the new blog post! I am marching right down to the Kinko’s today and have my copy of your book printed up!
Thank you for encouragment, not only to be “keepers of the home” but to serve our families with farmgirl flair!
I enjoy all of the really fun, creative, joyful tips, tricks and recipies!
Your Friend,
Amie of SDC :)
Hi Aunt Ruthie, just wanted to let you know that this will be the 2nd year I kick off my Memorial Day weekend by reading your book. I’ve been dying to open it up the last few weeks but i told myself ‘nope gotta wait til Memorial Day weekend, its tradition!’ For all you ladies thinking about ordering it you simply MUST get this e-book! It’s the BEST book for summer entertaining and celebrating. I love Aunt Ruthies idea of binding it with the gingham bows, but I went with the binder route. I bought a blue 3 ring binder that has the clear cover to slide the front cover page in and then i bought page protectors for each page and wa-la a perfect summer book! I also put red/white ginghan scrap paper down the binding and wrote the title on it.
Loved the camping pic of the Sierras, my old stomping grounds. Have a great trip out west!
Absolutely love your posts! Good, fun, old-fashioned living, great recipes! Thanks for sharing : )
Aunt Ruthie,
Loved the wedding picture of the couple in Silver Dollar City! My husband and I went to SDC on our honeymoon almost 39 years ago. We had our picture made too, but back then it wasn’t quite so fancy!LOL The real tin type! They have” come a long way baby”! (if anyone remembers this commercial, I am telling my age again)
Hope you enjoy your trip out west. Wish I was going too. I’ll just bet you will be at the Vintage Market Place with your sister? I saw where she was going to be in the show on Christie’s blog. Have a great time and bring back LOTS of pictures. Attending that show is on my bucket list for 2013.
I was curious too? Did I miss the giveaway results? I kept checking but could not find it?
It is always good to see a new post from Sugar Pie! Enjoy those cute boys of yours.
Blessings,Becky R

Hi Ruthie.
I enjoy reading your blog so much. It’s so inspiring.
I was wondering where you get the energy to do all you do? Diet, supplements, etc.? I would like to do more, be a better housewife, but I just don’t have the energy. I have had this problem for years now. Very discouraging. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you so much.
Dianna

does anyone have any idea’s as to the cheapest way to do this project? its $1 per color copy at my local library. thats $50 in copies.
of course like your web site but you need to check the spelling on quite a few
of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very
bothersome to tell the reality nevertheless I will definitely come again again.
It is appropriate time to make some plans for the future and it
is time to be happy. I’ve read this post and if I could
I desire to suggest you some interesting things or advice.
Perhaps you can write next articles referring to this article.
I desire to read even more things about it!
Actually when someone doesn’t know after that its
up to other people that they will assist, so here it occurs.
