Hello Sugar Pies! Well, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged! A lot has been going on! In fact this has been one of the most challenging seasons that I’ve been through in a long time! This summer has been very difficult for our family. Although, I’m so excited about the fall season and all the cozy goodness that Autumn brings that I’m so looking forward to blogging about, I felt it was important for me to share with y’all how the Lord has brought myself and my family through the last few months.

Some of you may be facing stormy seasons in your life and I want you to know that we have a God who cares, heals, redeems, restores, comforts, loves, and rescues us! I also want to point out that behind all the creatively styled pictures that we see on social media, including my own, that’s just a part of someone’s life, their creative side.  We don’t always get to see behind the scenes. Many times we don’t know their personal stories and struggles unless they are willing to share them. That’s what I want to share with you today. My hope is that you will be encouraged to know that we all go through hard stuff…you are not alone. And if I can make it through so can you!

Here are a few of the hardships we have faced this summer:

  • My dad (age 93) was in the hospital for Pneumonia for a week (he is home and well now, praise the Lord!).
  • My mom (age 88) fell and broke her hip (she is still recovering, prayers appreciated!)
  • My brother was diagnosed with cancer for the second time (receiving treatments, prayers appreciated!)

2018 family photo 2

  • A few of my kids had health scares (they are all doing better, praise the Lord!)
  • My house almost burned down on the 4th of July (the same day this family photo was taken.) It was the Lord that prompted us that evening to check the garage, where our two cars were parked, before going to bed. Our home was just minutes away from being fully engulfed in flames. We are so thankful we caught it in time!
  • One of my grand-babies had several seizures due to a high fever and was hospitalized for a week and spent time in the ICU.  Mama and papa were by their baby’s side every minute of every day as we all were praying fervently for healing. My grandbaby was healed! Our sweet twinkly-eyed baby is  home…healthy and happy! Praise the Lord!

branson mo ducks accident

  • In my hometown, Branson, Missouri we all mourned the horrible accident of a tourist boat that sunk on Table Rock Lake during a severe summer storm where 17 people perished. This was devastating to everyone in our small town. Our community had a candlelight service in the parking lot of the Ride the Ducks attraction to pray for the families that lost loved ones. The cars of those who perished were still parked there.

  • In the middle of all of this I was trying to catch up on all of my yearly doctor, dentist, and dermatologist appointments, including some medical procedures…all of which are emotionally draining especially when you’re waiting for biopsies to come back. Thank the Lord all is well!

Matthew 7:24-27 says ““Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

It is so important that we build our life on the rock who is Jesus and fill our hearts and minds with the Word of God, because when the storms of life hit we will be strong to withstand it. Doing so builds our trust and faith in the Lord in knowing that He will take care of us.

Here are a few go to scriptures that I meditate on when I am facing scary things:

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Proverbs 3: 5-6  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

Deuteronomy 31:8  “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Psalm 103: 2-5 Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

God is so good! He is such a comfort and loves us so much! When facing hard times please know that “This too shall pass!”. IMG_5793

Bless your hearts dear ones!

I’ll be back soon with some cozy fall goodness!

American Summer Decor at Sugar Pie Farmhouse

SUMMER YOUTUBE THUMBNAIL

Howdy-do! Sugar Pies! Well I sure hope your summer is filled joy! I just said goodbye to lots of family visiting for the past nine days! Every room of my home was filled with sweet family. Every night we had 33 people over for supper! Fortunately, everyone pitched in potluck style so I had a lot of help. Lots of fun memories were made! If you are on Instagram you can get a little glimpse of our festivities in my video stories under the title “Summertime”!

Well, since summertime will be over in about 4 weeks I think I oughta show y’all my summer home tour!! LOL!! Eeeeek! Time has just gotten away from me! Hey, better late than never right?? LOL!

I also have my home tour on video on Youtube! I’ll leave a link at the end of this post!

IMG_6486This is my entry way and I’m over the moon for this Homemade Ice Cream sign! I sold them in my shop (Spring Creek Tea Room & Antique Mall in Ozark MO.) and had to have one! What’s more summery than ice cream on a hot day? I decided the black and white colors of the sign would be my color palette.  So I gathered some things around my house that tied into that old fashioned, cool and delicious dessert…ICE CREAM!

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! (Do you remember saying that? Lol!)  Rocky Road is my favorite along with Chocolate Chip! What’s your favorite ice cream flavor in all the world? Tell me in the comments below!

Good old summertime ice cream days!

IMG_6503

I created this shiplap backdrop to showcase my ice cream themed vignette! If you’d like to see how I built it let me know in the comments below! Well, along with my sign I added a black and white cow…you can’t have real, dairy fresh ice cream without one!

IMG_6488

I also gathered some of my vintage milk bottles! These are very special because they’re ones from my childhood! Golden Arrow Dairy from San Diego, CA! I remember getting to ride our milk truck down the street with my friend and the clinking and clanging sounds of the glass milk bottles banging together.  The milkman dropped us off just down the block and we skipped back home. I love the idea of home delivery of milk and butter! The good old days!!

My white and chippy ice cream churn fit in perfect with my vignette. I filled it with silk flowers I got from Michael’s Craft store at 40% off!

The good old days…fresh milk delivered to your doorstep! I found this on the internet…it’s just like the one I got to ride down the street!

IMG_6479 I also added a vintage silhouette of a cute little boy to my Ice Cream vignette. I found it at a flea market for a few dollars and thought it looked a lot like my grandson Johnny! And the cherry on top was that it was from Disneyland! Squeal!! I remember eating ice cream at the Carnation Ice Cream Shop on Main Street USA at Disneyland when I was a little girl.

I still love my glowing cafe lights…they provide such a happy glow!

I thought the soda pop bottle would be a sweet addition too because of those old-timey coke and root beer floats that were so popular at  the diners and ice cream shops back in the day. I tucked in some summer daisies and an American flag as a nod to my American Summer Theme!

IMG_6379

I placed this old pie tin behind the soda pop bottle so you could see the graphics. It’s Hill Billy Soda which I thought was funny and adorable especially since I live in Hill-Billy-land here in the Ozarks! LOL!

IMG_6450

I’m not sure if you noticed that I painted my mantle white but I’ve been wanting to paint it for a long time. It really brightens up the room and I think the snowy-white color is going to look so pretty with my Christmas decorations! Yippeeeeeeeee!

IMG_6506

I also sold my  upholstered chairs and brought these up from downstairs. I’ve had them for probably 30 years or more. They were oak stained and I painted them white too! To me it looks so fresh and clean. I feel like I have brand new chairs! I also painted the armoire! Paint is an inexpensive way to make old things look like new!

IMG_6362IMG_6508

On top of the armoire I added some farmy things that look like they belong in granny’s attic…some old crates, a white pitcher, egg basket, milk bucket, white-washed harvest basket and an oil lamp.

IMG_6426IMG_6454

My all american Menu sign was from Pottery Barn a few years back. I added a little red lantern, a vintage potato chip tin and a vintage ice cream churn and scoop that belonged to my mother in law. The chicken sisters are hanging out under the farm table.

IMG_6456IMG_6518I kept my baking center simple with just a little bucket of green silk plants from Ikea with a little  American flag tucked in. I like to feature a seasonal cookbook on the counter to inspire me. This one is called What can I bring? Southern Food For Any Occasion Life Serves Up. I love it!! The photos are gorgeous and the recipes are yummy!! I recently made the Cheese Enchiladas and they were soooo delicious and easy! It’s now a new family favorite!

I also changed the area above the mantle. I used to have an old sign that said Cedar Hill Farm but the family was tired of it… (not me!) Lol!  So I decided to change it out. I made another shiplap backdrop so I could add different signs for the seasons.

IMG_6416

I embellished the corners of the shiplap backdrop with some vintage corbels that I had. IMG_6415

I love using these flickering battery candles especially on a mantle. They look real and completely safe. They also have a remote control so I can turn them off across the room or use the timer feature.

Well, that’s my better-late-than-never Summer Home Tour!! Lol! Hope y’all are doing well! Anyone thinking about fall yet? Heehee!
